Hi Leo, Yes it was a Male only Lodge, I would also attend public ceremonies with him. One time he was to approach the Altar (located in the center of the Lodge) My job was to line him Up in the west and let him go. I was then, supposed to (discreetly cough) when he was about two steps from the alter (so that He could Kneel) Well I was so busy looking around this Lodge that I had never been in before that my eyes were off Murph... Of course, he hit the altar. He turned 180 degrees around glared at me (harrumphed) turned back around, knelt did what he needed to do.stood up and joined me in the west with out missing a beat. What composure he had! I often wonder at how would I do my ritual if I didn't have the Blessing of sight ? I don't think that I could be as brave as Murph unable to see yet still willing to serve. Blessings LouAnn

Very unusual, but very refreshing to hear.
I wonder if this gesture is replicated elsewhere, because if it is it demonstrate the old adage - where there's a will there's a way

Welcome LouAnn,
In the Hunter Region of Australia, we in the mainstream had an excellent organist who was accompanied into the Lodge Room ("Temple") by a real seeing eye dog. The brethren even made up a pretend apron (worn around the neck), so SHE would be properly clothed in lodge and they described her as an honorary member. She even feature in the GL magazine (I don't think the article mentioned gender). |

What a wonderful story, and, indeed, a wonderful dog

Yes indeed. it is great to have her onboard. I would especially like to hear more about the Associated Orders such as Job's Daughters, Rainbow Girls, OES, Amaranth etc.

I know i'm dragging up an old post but i find it heart warming that freemasonry can oblige a brother like this but also a tad sad that no brother of your friends lodge could have done the same thing that you did. There was no need for you to be present at all, if the lodge had a room full of brethren. Anyone who has filled the deacons position could easily have helped this brother(and i am talking from experience as i had a gran who was blind whom i helped through busy city streets from the age of 5 onwards).
